Astonfield Renewables to set up 4MW solar power projects in Mauritius

CHENNAI: Independent solar power producer Astonfield Renewables will set up two 2 megawatt (MW) solar projects in Mauritius with an investment of approximately $8.2 million.

One 2MW project would come up in La Gaulette and the other in Union Flacq which the company would develop jointly with Alteo Energy, a statement from the company said. The projects are coming up under the Government of Mauritius' 10MW solar photovoltaic programme.

"With this additional capacity, Mauritius is positioning itself to be the clean energy hub for not only its territory but also East Africa as we are determined to use the country as a platform for financing activities, engineering and project management-related work," co-chairman and director of Astonfield Renewables Ameet Shah said.
Head off to honeymoon heaven

It was an essential part of the wedding planning. It had to involve sun, luxury and minimal exertion. A year of constructing a wedding day for 90 guests was like taking on a part-time job – although one in which we had no experience – and after the big day, we'd be in need of some serious R, R and R (rest, relaxation and romance). But there was another consideration. Since a honeymoon is one of the most important holidays of a couple's life, we had to make this trip more special than any other.

Most couples may now cohabit before getting hitched, but the honeymoon is as important as it ever was. It's a time to focus on yourselves as a couple and there's nothing like bathing in that post-wedding fuzz and having an excuse to switch off all connections with the outside world.

Wedding magazines had me misty eyed with pictures of couples luxuriating in private plunge pools overlooking the ocean, showered with every luxury, from rose petals scattered on four-poster beds, to champagne on the terrace. It's little wonder that one third of couples now opt for honeymoon contributions as a wedding gift, rather than toasters, towels and photo frames.

Mauritius and China Southern Airlines sign partnership agreement

Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) and China Southern Airlines (CSA) on Monday signed an agreement aimed at developing tourism.

The agreement signed in Port Louis will enable Mauritius to advertise itself through the Chinese carrier, while the latter will use Mauritius as a hub for its expansion in Africa.

"Our destination will be included in the company's campaigns on social networks and other campaigns that will be jointly conducted with China Southern Airlines in China. Next week, MTPA and CSA will be together in China, more precisely in Shenzhen, Chengdu and Hangzhou, for a roadshow aimed at creating visibility for Mauritius and attract more Chinese visitors to the country," MTPA director Karl Mootoosamy said.

"We want to expand our flights to the African market and the Indian Ocean region, and Mauritius will be the gateway," said Zhang Jianmin, CSA vice-chairman.
