A new United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) 5 Project has called for public-private partnership for increased electricity generation in The Gambia.

The project on "greening the productive sectors in The Gambia as well as promoting the use and integration of small and medium scale renewable energy systems in the productive sectors" was unveiled Monday by the minister of Energy, Dr. Edward Saja Sanneh, during a ceremony held at a local hotel in Kololi.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology recently held its retreat to take stock of the progress registered by the sector as well as identify the challenges that serve as impediments to attainment of goals and targets.

The meeting held at the conference hall of the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) brought together the line departments and other stakeholders in the country's higher education sector.

As part of a student visit programme, in partnership with Global Hands Gambia (GHG), at least 42 students from Global Hands Leicester in the United Kingdom Saturday arrived in the Gambia for 11-day working visit.

Global Hands Gambia is a youth charitable organisation under the umbrella body of Global Hands Leicester in the United Kingdom. Global Hands Gambia was formed in January 4th 2013, primarily aimed at building capacities. GHG is also involved in five key areas, such as education, health, agriculture, environment, and entrepreneurship. Speaking at a press conference held on Saturday at the American Corner in Bundung, GHG chairperson, Jimmy Hendry Nzally, said the upcoming trip of its partners is part of an ongoing community project his organisation is spearheading, in collaboration with its parent body Global Hands Leicester, UK.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Gambian chapter on Saturday inaugurated its first executive members at the Girls Guide hall, along MDI Road.

The ceremony started by singing of the Gambia National Anthem, followed by the Nigerian National Anthem and introduction of special dignitaries, including Justice Emmauel Fagbenle, president of the Gambia Court of Appeal, Honourable Hyacinth Ekwulide, president of the Nigerian Committee in The Gambia and the Nigeria Consular attache.
