Lakkotrypis was invited to comment on an interview by US Deputy Assistant Secretary Amos Hochstein, one of the State Department`s senior officials responsible for energy, who said in an interview with cypriot daily “Phileleftheros” that the Republic of Cyprus has the right to develop its resources located in its offshore EEZ.

“There is no doubt that Cyprus offers excellent advantages to become an energy hub and a bridge between the countries of the region,” Lakkotrypis said, adding the US involvement was evident during the visit of US Vice President Joe Biden and their continued involvement as manifested in Mr Hochstein`s interview.

Whereas the World Bank’s reports on Cyprus’ state education are not binding, their findings are a “useful tool” in shaping much-needed reform, education minister Costas Kadis said on Tuesday.
He was speaking to the media following a session of the House education committee, where Kadis discussed with MPs the two World Bank reports released earlier this month.
French-Cypriot School an investment in education and bilateral relations, Minister says

The French-Cypriot School of Nicosia is an investment of Cyprus and France, both in the field of education, as well as in good bilateral relations, the Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture Costas Kadis said on Tuesday.

THE expansion of higher education particularly in the fields of modern technology, medicine and energy to create qualified manpower for businesses and organisations, President Nicos Anastasiades said yesterday.

He said it also prevents Cypriot scientists moving abroad, which is one of the government`s highest priorities.

“The academic development of Cyprus and at the same time developing research and innovation is for the government an integral part of the economic, social and cultural development of our country,” he said.

Bulgaria sees gas supply potential from Cyprus

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) — Bulgaria's foreign minister said Monday that Cyprus could eventually supply his country and other central European nations with natural gas to lessen the region's heavy dependence on Russian deliveries.

Kristian Vigenin said Cyprus could be key to an envisioned "north-south corridor" supplying gas to central Europe.

"Cyprus can play an important role in the project delivering gas to (liquefied natural gas) terminals in Greece and then from there this can bring gas up to Bulgaria, Romania and central Europe," Vigenin said after talks with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides.
