Botswana coronavirus: Prez tests negative again, schools reopening

The government this morning announced that President Eric Masisi was due to be released from home quarantine after testing negative for COVID-19. “His Excellency went into quarantine following his one day trip to Harare, Zimbabwe on the 19th of May to attend the SADC Extra Ordinary Summit on Politics, Defence and Security,” a statement signed by his press secretary read in part. This becomes the third time the president has been tested for the virus. First was after he made a trip to Namibia for the investiture of Hage Geingob. Botswana coronavirus: Relaxed lockdown kicks in, Steve Harvey donates

President Eric Masisi was personally at the airport in Gaborone to receive a donation from American TV star Steve Harvey. The 7.2 metric tonnes of medical equipment arrived on WednesdayIt comprised of personal protective equipment which will be used by frontline staff dealing with the pandemic. Botswana president Eric Masisi has tested negative for COVID-19 and has subsequently been released from home quarantine, “with immediate effect,” to resume duties at his office. “This follows the release of his Covid-19 test results yesterday which came out negative,” a statement from the office of the president said. Lions of the Chobe commemorative stamp launched

Although, people rarely write letters these days because of the digital era, stamps still remain very relevant especially as storytellers and recorders of history, acting as silent ambassadors of a country. It was in light of this that this past week, Botswana Tourism Organisation Acting Chief Executive Officer Thabo Brian Dithebe launched the Lions of the Chobe Commemorative stamp.

 
The stamp which will be in circulation for a year was put together with the contribution of several creatives. Dr. Oduetse Koboto, Dr Michael Flyman, Gosiame Neo-Mahupeleng, Stamp artist Wilson Ngoni and Lesiga Segola who were involved heavily in the creation of the commemorative stamp were applauded at the launch. Botswana has produced postage stamps for national use since 1966 with the first stamps showing the abattoir in Lobatse, Botswana National Airways and the state house in Gaborone.

Botswana ambassador talks relations overseas



The Center for the Education of Women hosted the Ambassador of Botswana to the United States, Tebelelo Mazile Seretse, on Wednesday to facilitate a more international focus in the department.

Seretse, who became ambassador in February 2011, is Botswana’s first female ambassador. Prior to her current position, she served in Botswana’s Parliamentary cabinets from 1999 to 2004, holding various positions including Minister of Trade and Industry, Minister of Wildlife and Tourism and Minister of Works, Transport, and Communication.
